Campaigning

I don't know if I'm much good at either campaigning or writing blogs, being new to both, but my motivation is to improve the process of communication and decision-making for District1, so if I move that forward even an inch, I'll feel good.

Out on the campaign trail, I've met quite a few neighbors in person. It's amazing how friendly and open everyone is, considering how polarized the political positions seem to have become on so many issues

Passion is good, but polarization and fixed opinions can get in the way of results, so it's been gratifying to witness that in person, most Westport residents are so civil and considerate, still retaining that Westport spirit that I chose to move here for 12 years ago.

Although Saugatuck Shores is very different in culture from Vani Court, residents in every Saugatuck neighborhood share an uncanny intelligence, public spirit, awareness of issues, and love of town traditions. Their focus on how their tax dollars are spent might diverge, but I detect that everyone wants fairness in process and decision-making and appropriations that preserve and advance the unique cultural advantages of Westport. Nobody wants us to become either another Norwalk or another New Canaan!

I've decided to make an initial policy of not mentioning names and instead, encouraging those with strong opinions to come to the site and make their voices heard by commenting on the blogs and news, or posting in the forum, or even writing their own blog and posting photos to help us visualize. Lets' be passionate yet civil.

I'll keep this one short, and win or lose, I'll attempt to make this site available for open discussion of issues and other candidates (and elected representatives) of our town.
